Do I need a separate deposit account for Gift Cards?
Do I need a separate deposit account for Gift Cards?
We recommend that all merchants use a separate bank account—different from your daily store deposit account—for gift card deposits.
This is because gift card deposits are not considered revenue until they are actually redeemed in-store. Keeping gift card funds in a separate account helps ensure accurate financial reporting and clear accounting.
This practice is especially important for brands with multiple store locations, as all gift card deposits from the same enterprise will be grouped under a shared account. Since gift cards are intended to be redeemable across all locations, a unified deposit account ensures smooth settlement across your stores.
