Menu - Button Colors

In this article, you will learn how to set the button color for a category, an item, or a combo, so that your staff can find things faster on the POS ordering screen. You can set button colors in the Store Portal, and also directly on the POS and Mobile POS.

Note:

  • Button colors are available for categories, items, and combos only. Menu buttons are always white, and add-ons, tastes, and sizes have no button color setting.

  • Button colors are set per store. Changing a color only affects the store you are working in.

  • Colors set before this update are kept and still shown as they are. Once you change a color and save, you can only choose from the current color palette, and the earlier color can no longer be selected.

📖 Tutorial

How Button Colors Work

Categories

Every category has its own button color. When you create a new category, a color that is not yet in use is assigned to it automatically. Once every color in the palette is taken, the assignment starts over from the first color, so two categories can share a color.

Items and combos

An item or a combo can either follow its category or use a color of its own.

  • Inherit Category (default): the button uses the color of the category it belongs to and changes with it. The color swatch below is marked Inherited from category and cannot be changed here.

  • Special: the button uses the color you pick, and no longer changes when the category color changes. When you switch to Special, the first color in the palette is selected, so pick the color you want before you save.

Set a Button Color in the Store Portal

For a category

Navigate to Store Portal > Menu > Categories, then add a new category or open an existing one. You will find Button Color right under Name.

For an item or a combo

Open the item or the combo, and you will find Button Color right under Category. Choose Inherit Category or Special.

To change a color, click the color swatch, pick a color in the Select Color window, and click [Confirm]. Then save the category, item, or combo to apply the change.

Set a Button Color on the POS or Mobile POS

You can also change a button color while you are on the ordering screen.

  1. Turn on Quick Edit Mode.

  2. Tap the category, item, or combo you want to change. For a category or a combo, the quick edit window shows Button Color. For an item, Button Color is shown together with the settings you already edit there, with the Inherit Category and Special options.

  3. Pick a color, then tap [Save & Publish].

Note: Quick Edit Mode is not available while the POS is offline. Reconnect the device, or change the color in the Store Portal instead.

FAQ

Will my current button colors change after the update?

No. Your categories, items, and combos keep the colors they have today.

Why can I not go back to the color I had before?

Once you change a color and save, only the colors in the current palette are available. An earlier color that is not in the palette cannot be selected again.

Why is there no Button Color for my add-ons, tastes, or sizes?

Button colors apply to categories, items, and combos only. Add-ons, tastes, and sizes do not have this setting.

I switched an item to Special and the color changed on its own.

When you switch to Special, the first color in the palette is selected. Pick the color you want in the Select Color window, click [Confirm], and save the item.
