Note: This update will be gradually reflected on your POS over the next month.
If your store has just moved to the new POS order page, the biggest change you will notice is how you keep an order that is not paid for yet. Save is now Hold, and it works side by side with Send on both Table Service and Quick Service.
Hold and Send: what each one does
[Hold] saves the order without sending it to the kitchen and without taking payment, so the customer can come back and add more items before checking out. Hold replaces the previous Save function.
[Send] saves the order and sends it to the kitchen at the same time.
You can tell the two apart at a glance: held items are shown in pink, and items that have already been sent are shown in yellow with the time they were sent.
What this changes in your ordering flow
Quick Service. Add items to the cart, then click [Hold]. The order is saved and the cart is cleared for the next customer. To find it again, open [Order History] and select [Save Orders]. From there you can click [Pay] to check out directly, or [Edit] to reopen the order and keep adding to it.
Table Service. Once the guests at the table have finished ordering, click [Send] to fire the items to the kitchen, or [Hold] to keep them on the table without sending them yet. After either action you return to the floor plan and the table stays open, so you can reopen it at any time to add more.
Two smaller behaviours are worth knowing:
[Print Check] automatically holds any items that have not been sent before it prints, so nothing on the screen is lost when you print the check.
If you try to leave an order with changes that have been neither held nor sent, the POS stops you with "You have unsaved changes". Click [Stay Here] to go back, or [Discard and Exit] to leave without keeping them.
You can now hold or send only part of an order
You are no longer limited to acting on the whole cart. Click [Select], tap the items you want, then click [Hold] or [Send]. The two buttons complement each other: [Send] fires the selected items and places any other unsent items on hold, while [Hold] holds the selected items and sends the rest. A message confirms the result, for example "2 items sent, 2 items placed on hold".
Multi-Select works in both Table Service and Quick Service. A combo is always selected as a whole, and items that have already been sent or voided cannot be selected again. Coursing and Delayed Send are not available while Multi-Select is switched on.
Hiding the Send button in Quick Service
If your team takes payment before sending food to the kitchen, you can now hide the [Send] button on the Quick Service order screen, so orders cannot go out unpaid.
The switch lives in the Store Portal, under Settings > Order Settings > POS Order Screen tab > Quick Service card > Show Send Button. It is on by default, so nothing changes for your store until you turn it off. See how to show or hide the Send button>>>
