Customers can buy TikTok vouchers in the TikTok app and redeem them at your store. There are two types, and they are used at completely different moments, so it helps to tell them apart first.
| Product voucher | Cash voucher |
What it is | A set of items. When you redeem it, a free TikTok Combo is added to the order. | An amount off the bill, for example 15 off 20. It works as a payment method. |
When you redeem it | Before you take payment, while you are building the order. | On the payment page, when you take payment. |
Where | The ordering page, under [Redeem Voucher] or the TikTok Combo tile. | The payment page, under [Other] payment methods. |
Tax | The combo is 0 and is not taxed. TikTok has already collected the tax. | Tax is charged on the original amount. The voucher only reduces what the customer pays. |
Product vouchers need to be set up in the Store Portal before they can be redeemed. See Menu - Set Up TikTok Combo. Cash vouchers need no setup.
📖 Redeem a product voucher
Note: A product voucher is redeemed the moment it is added to the cart, and redemption cannot be undone on the POS. Do not scan a voucher to test it.
On the ordering page, tap [Redeem Voucher] in the toolbar, or tap the TikTok Combo tile in the item list. The redemption window opens.
Scan the QR code the customer shows you. The POS looks the voucher up and shows a preview of the combo it matched. This is only a preview. The voucher has not been redeemed yet.
Check the preview, then tap [Redeem]. Only now is the voucher actually redeemed.
The TikTok Combo is added to the order at 0. If the combo is set up as choose N out of M, the modifier screen opens so the customer can pick.
Tablets and handhelds without a scanner
On a device with no scanner attached, the scan area of the redemption window becomes an [Open Camera to Scan] button. Tap it to scan with the device camera. Everything after that (preview, then [Redeem]) works exactly the same.
After the combo is in the order
The quantity cannot be changed.
The combo cannot be split into fractions, the same as a regular combo.
The price shows as Redeemed on both the cashier screen and the customer display. On printed tickets and in the order details the amount is recorded as 0.
Everything else works as usual.
On the customer display, the customer is prompted to show their QR code and then sees a confirmation once the voucher is redeemed.
Redeem a cash voucher
A cash voucher is not an item. It is a payment method you choose at checkout.
On the payment page, open [Other] payment methods and choose [TikTok Voucher].
Scan or enter the voucher code.
The voucher amount is applied as one payment. If there is still a balance due, the POS continues into split payment so the customer can pay the rest another way.
Note: If the voucher is worth more than the amount due, [TikTok Voucher] is greyed out and you will see This voucher’s value exceeds the amount due. The voucher cannot be used and no change is given.
Good to know
One QR code can hold several vouchers. When a customer buys more than one of the same voucher, they all sit in one code. Each scan plus [Redeem] uses up one voucher, so scan the same code again for each one you need.
Void and refund still work, but the TikTok voucher is not returned. You can void or refund an order that used a TikTok voucher, and you will see a confirmation reminding you of this. To get the voucher back, the customer starts a refund in the TikTok app and you approve it in the Store Portal; TikTok then refunds the customer.
Redemption needs a connection. The POS checks the voucher with TikTok in real time, so vouchers cannot be redeemed while the POS is offline. Try again once the connection is back.
Reports are not instant. Redemption and transaction data reaches your reports with a delay. In totals grouped by payment method, TikTok Voucher shows as 0. Nothing is missing, the individual transactions are still there in the details.
