Report - Report Category (custom reporting groups)

How to create custom Report Categories and use them across Tip Pool, Z Report, Shift Review, and Sales Summary

A Report Category is a custom group you create for reporting. It lets you group items by your own business standard — for example Food, Beverage and Liquor — no matter how your menu is organized (Menu → Category → Item).

Create Report Categories

  1. Go to Store Portal › Settings › Report Settings and open the Report Category tab.

  1. Click [+ Create Report Category]. Enter a Name and, if you like, a Description, then click the check mark to save. Click the X to cancel.

  1. The new Report Category shows in the list. Use the pencil icon to edit it or the trash icon to delete it.

Link your menu to Report Categories

You can set a Report Category at three levels: Menu, Category and Item. A lower level follows the level above it unless you choose something else.

Menu

Go to Menu › Menu, edit a menu and choose a Report Category. Every category and item in that menu follows it by default.

Category

Go to Menu › Categories, edit a category and choose a Report Category.

  • The option marked (Inherit) follows the menu. For example, None (Inherit) means the menu has no Report Category.

  • Choose a Report Category from the list to set it for this category only.

  • Choose None if this category should not belong to any Report Category.

Item

Go to Menu › Items, edit an item and choose a Report Category.

  • The option marked (Inherit) follows the item's category. For example, Food (Inherit) means the item's category is linked to Food.

  • Choose a different Report Category if this one item should be counted elsewhere.

  • Choose None if this item should not belong to any Report Category.

The Report Category column in the Menu, Categories and Items lists shows what each one is linked to. In the example below, Vanilla Milkshake is set to Beverage, while the other items follow their category.

Where Report Category appears

  • Tip Pool / Tip Sharing — configure by Report Category

  • Z Report (Close out day) — adds a Report Category dimension

  • Shift Review — adds Report Category display

  • Sales Summary — adds a Report Category section

Important

You must create Report Categories and link your menu, categories or items before the reports above will break out by Report Category.
