Once your retail catalog is set up in the Store Portal, staff can scan and sell retail items right at the register and manage products on the fly. This article covers the retail features on the POS.
Selling Retail Items by Scanning
Before you start, make sure Enable Sales SKU is turned on in your POS Settings.
To add a retail item to an order, scan its barcode on the sales screen. The POS finds the matching product and adds it to the cart, increasing the quantity each time you scan.
Barcode won't scan? If a barcode is damaged or unreadable, you can search for the item manually instead. Works offline.
You can still search for items, add them to the cart, and take payment while the POS is offline.
Registering a New Barcode on the Spot
If you scan a barcode the POS doesn't recognize, a Barcode not found message appears and asks whether you'd like to register it now.
Choose Register Now to jump straight to the Barcode Register with the SKU already filled in. Add the remaining details, save, and return to the sales screen — scanning the item again will now add it to the order.
Choose Maybe Later to close the message and go back to the sale.
Using the Barcode Register
The Barcode Register is where you view and manage retail products on the POS. Go to POS > Settings > Barcode Register. This page is always available, whether or not your store carries retail products.
Search and filter tools are on the left, and your product list is on the right. You can also scan a barcode here to pull up a product's details instantly. If the barcode isn't registered yet, you'll see the same Barcode not found prompt, with Register Now auto-filling the SKU.
Adding or Editing a Product
To add a product, click Add Product, enter the product information, and click Add Product again. You'll see a "Product Added" confirmation.
You can also scan to add a product in two ways:
From the list: scan a barcode the POS doesn't recognize, then confirm to open the Add Product screen.
From the product screen: scan a barcode while adding or editing a product to auto-fill the SKU field.
To edit an item, open it from the list and update its details.
Printing a Low-Stock List
If you track inventory on your retail products, you can print a list of items running low.
Tap the Low Inventory indicator wherever it appears, or go to Settings > Barcode Register and use the Print Low Stock Report (X) button at the top of the page. (This button only appears when there are low-stock items.)
The list prints from your receipt printer.
More than 20 items? Lists longer than 20 items are sent by email instead of printed. Enter an email address and click Send, and you'll see "An email will be sent shortly."
Note: The Barcode Register and low-stock alerts aren't available while the POS is offline.
